Balanced Horizon is delighted to announce that we won the Environment Award at the East Lothian Community Champions Awards 2026 ceremony, held last night.
We have many to thank for all our work this year. While our team is small, our success depends upon bringing together many different parties – supporters, funders, volunteers, communities, public bodies, businesses and land managers – to develop shared solutions and deliver meaningful action on the ground. Together we punch well above our weight.
In particular a big thanks to The Chocolate Tree for entering us into the awards, to WWF Scotland for all their continued support for our native oyster plans as part of the Forth Marine Hatchery, to NatureScot and East Lothian Council for supporting our Muir to Forth initiative and to Fringe By The Sea for their on-going commitment to the Scottish Coastal Cleanup. Our digital media buddies at Balanced Impact are consistently awesome partners, as are the excellent teams at Forth Rivers Trust and East Lothian Climate Hub.
At Balanced Horizon, we believe that environmental recovery and community wellbeing go hand in hand. Our work focuses on helping communities, landowners and organisations create practical solutions that deliver benefits for nature, climate resilience and local people. Whether supporting river restoration, developing nature networks, advancing biodiversity projects or cleaning up our beaches, our goal is always to leave a lasting positive legacy for future generations. And while our efforts go beyond its borders we remain 100% committed to making a difference to communities in our home county, East Lothian.

While still small we are a dynamic environmental charity with big plans and a long term vision to support nature through its protection and restoration. We also believe that environmental recovery and community wellbeing go hand in hand so our plans for nature must also benefit local people. Alongside our environmental commitments we have strong social goals to educate our school pupils about source-to-sea restoration and, as they get older, helping young people gain valuable employment skills.

We would like to thank the organisers, Newsquest Media Group, of the East Lothian Community Champions Awards for hosting such an inspiring event and for recognising environmental leadership alongside the many other valuable contributions being made to communities across the county. It was a truly inspiring and uplifting evening that highlights the difference many people make towards improving the lives of others across East Lothian. A final thanks to everyone who has contributed to our rapid growth over the last few years. This award belongs as much to you as it does to us. We look forward to continuing to champion projects that restore nature, strengthen communities and build a more resilient future for East Lothian.
